Lukas Birk, a photographer, storyteller, conservator, and publisher, engages in multi-disciplinary projects that manifest in films, chronicles, and books. Much of Lukas’ work revolves around archival material he gathers during his travels or while delving into his own background. Exploring areas often marked by conflict and overlooked historical narratives, Lukas conducts research, seeking to present existing materials in an artistic form.

His narratives challenge recorded history, introducing alternate storylines and fictional elements alongside commonly accepted facts. Lukas is the founder of artist programs with residencies in China and Indonesia. He has spearheaded significant archive projects like the Afghan Box Camera Project and the Myanmar Photo Archive. His imprint, Fraglich Publishing, primarily centers around photographic history.
