Normal human body temperature ranges from 36 to 37 degrees; 37 degrees serves as the threshold for thermal sensation. For every 0.2-degree rise, the body secretes a substance called phenethylamine, which, when it stimulates the brain and central nervous system, creates a sensation of warmth and pleasure. In this way, by transforming intangible sensations into tangible visuals, film and traditional cameras seem to become a trusted medium.
These images all depict my family, and at their heart lies something our era is rapidly losing: whilst we are overly preoccupied with ourselves and the wider world, we rarely pay attention to the space and time within a few metres of us—including the lives of those around us and our loved ones. Yet these were among the things people held most dear in a previous era. This rapidly vanishing aspect leaves contemporary people feeling a sense of loss; this is what I am striving to express, and what I am striving to preserve.
