Kim Sunyoung (b. 1982) currently lives and works in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Since 2010, she has been a senior curator at Museum Hanmi, formerly known as The Museum of Photography, Seoul. Her work involves collaborating with photographic artists for indoor and outdoor exhibitions.
Since 2015, Kim has spearheaded the MH Talent Portfolio open call program, fostering collaborations between young artists and the museum. She also serves as a juror and portfolio reviewer for photography platforms and presents papers at overseas symposiums on Korean photography and visual culture.
Kim writes columns on Expanded Photography for Korean Photography Magazine Photo Arts and conducts interviews with artists and curators working in the contemporary photography scene.
Her research focuses on medium specificity and its impact on contemporary photographic practices. She recently received the 10 × 10 Photobooks’ Research Grant on Korean Photobook History and studied women photographers active in the 1960s, exploring their work as published in magazines.
