Ryo Kusumoto is photographer based in Kyoto, JAPAN.

Ryo (b.1982, Tokushima) studied Evolutionary developmental biology at the
graduated school of Tokushima University. While working for new pharmaceutical development (2007-2010), he technically and philosophically studied photography, and exhibited his work as a gallery recommended photographer from JAPAN in the Seoul photo festival 2010.

Since 2011, he works as an independent photographer. In addition to shooting for
newspapers, magazines, he also produces company advertisement videography,
too.

In 2014, he got selected award of The 15th Hikoma Ueno award, and his work was
exhibited in Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and so on. After that, he exhibited in the
Ryosoku-in, sub-temple within the grounds of Kennin-ji temple, as a new project about a traditional ink painter. He was awarded the 2nd prize of the Yonosuke Natori photo award 2017 sponsored by Japan professional photographers society.

His latest work “Renjishi” was shortlisted of Unseen dummy award 2018, cosmos pdf award and Fiebre photobook award 2019. It was his 1st artist book made by hand only 68 editions. This work is in Musée de l’Elysée, Lausanne, Switzerland and Biblioteca de San Telmo / Gabriela Cendoya Bergareche Collection, Donostia-San Sebastian, Spain.
