Ying Ding (Hasu August as artist alias) was born in 1968. She studied photography in Japan, and management science in the United States. After working in a couple of multinational companies for over twenty years, she started to devote herself to a journey of story-telling either by words or by photographs.

Her debut novel THE ENVELOPES was published by EarnshawBooks in 2025, and her debut photobook THOUGH I HAVE NO ROOTS / 根無し草として was published by Sokyusha/蒼穹舎 in 2026.
