A non-profit photography library based in Taipei that is open to all, Lightbox Photo Library is a community-centric space that remains dedicated to its mission of preserving and promoting photographic practices within Taiwan.
Lightbox’s founder and director Liang-Pin Tsao discusses the organisation’s journey since its establishment in 2016, and shares his reflections on Lightbox’s 8-year journey as an independent cultural space for photography.
This talk is moderated by artist Ang Song Nian, who is also a co-founder of THEBOOKSHOW.

Lightbox Photo Library
Founded in 2016, Lightbox Photo Library is a non-profit organization based in Taiwan that is free and open to everyone. They utilize the library as a method to preserve, research and promote photographic publications from Taiwan.
Through various initiatives, Lightbox aims to deepen perspectives originating from Taiwan and advance the democratization of art, including the New Wave Photography Award and the inaugural Taiwan International Photography Festival in 2025.
Lightbox collaborates with the community to create a more open and equitable environment for photography, encouraging everyone to take part in the conversation and develop a complex view and nuanced understanding of the art form.
Liang-Pin Tsao, Speaker
Liang-Pin Tsao is an artist and founder of Lightbox Photo Library located in Taipei. He is the grantee of Fulbright – Taiwan Ministry of Culture Arts Professionals Program, New York Residency Program by the Taiwan Ministry of Culture, and he currently serves on the Collection Committee of Taipei Fine Arts Museum.
In 2016, he founded Lightbox Photo Library, a nonprofit organization focused on preserving, researching, and promoting photography in Taiwan. Its initiatives include the New Wave Photography Award and the inaugural Taiwan International Photography Festival in 2025.
Ang Song Nian, Moderator
Ang Song Nian is the founder of THEBOOKSHOW, a platform which started in 2014 that works towards providing opportunities for artists and photographers interested in the self-published photobook medium.
In his art practice, he works with materials and traces of human behaviours made visible within landscapes through photographic documentations and installation. Intrigued by the narration of thoughts and ideologies through visuals, his works questions the relationship of human interventions and manipulations on landscapes.
