Carol Chow is a Hong Kong-based curator, researcher, educator and image-maker. She holds
a PhD in Communication from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master’s degree
in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University. With an interdisciplinary background in
philosophy, communication and visual arts, her practice centres on photography as a critical
medium for examining social issues, memory, place, gender and historical narratives. She is
also a practitioner of visual ethnography, using photography as a research methodology to
investigate communities, landscapes and lived experience.

She is currently Programme Consultant of the Hong Kong International Photography Festival
(HKIPF). From 2025 to 2026, she led research and curated programmes for HKIPF's new
space, Koon Man Space. She also teaches photography, with a particular focus on helping
practitioners develop conceptual frameworks and connect their image-making to wider
thematic, social and theoretical concerns.

Her curatorial projects span themes of gender, migration, geopolitics, technology, urban space
and ecology, and include A Room with a View (Singapore International Photography Festival,
2016), The Wall: A Parallel of East-West Germany and the Sino-Hong Kong Reunion (2022),
Pharmakon (2021), MegaFamily: Imagining Home (HKIPF 2024, co-curated with Blues
Wong), All That Is Solid Melts into Images (Dali Photo Festival, 2026), and Flow with Big
Mountain (2026). She is also curator and researcher of the Chuen Lung Visual Research
Archive, a long-term project exploring local histories, land and community memory.
