Image After Image: Material, Memory, Machine brings together Chow Chee Yong, Jonathan Liu, Ernest Wu, Aik Beng Chia and Gilles Massot to explore photography as an evolving language shaped by technology, material and memory.

Moving between analogue processes, digital imaging and artificial intelligence, the exhibition considers how images continually transform across print, screen, data and machine. Gilles Massot revisits Jules Itier’s 1844 daguerreotypes, tracing images across time and reproduction. Chow Chee Yong returns to the silver-based chemistry and physical materiality of analogue photography, while Ernest Wu examines the circulation and material afterlife of news images. Aik Beng Chia uses AI to reconstruct childhood memories of 1970s Bugis Street, transforming recollection into imagined scenes, while Jonathan Liu employs machine learning to explore memory and machine-generated interpretation.

Together, these practices present photography as an evolving ecology, where material and machine, memory and computation, past and future continually intersect.
