Artist Biography:
Chen Shun-Chu (1963-2014) was a mid-career artist who emerged after Taiwan’s martial law was lifted. Centering on family images, he pioneered mixed media photography in the 1990s. He is skilled at creative reorganization of old photos and furniture fragments, combining photography, found objects, and installation art to explore the intricate layers of memory and history. His works are rational and detailed, rich in poetic and philosophical reflection. They have significantly shaped the landscape of contemporary Taiwanese art, making Chen a key representative in the realm of “new image” art.
