VITRINE by Yeo Workshop presents What Remains: A Dialogue across time, placing works by Singaporean artists Wei Leng Tay and Loke Hong Seng in cross-generational dialogue. Loke’s black-and-white records of a transforming city meet Tay’s materially experimental approach, asking how images shape memory and the histories we inherit.
Singapore street photographer Loke documented the nation-building decades of the 1960s and 1970s. His images trace industrialisation and urban change through kampungs, bumboat coolies and samsui women, alongside construction sites and HDB estates—social portraits of a nation being remade.
Through archival material, cyanotype and contact-printing processes, digital imaging and physical manipulation, Tay examines how images are made, remembered and reinterpreted, bringing private memory into contact with wider social histories. Together, the works resist a simple opposition between past and present, shifting the question from what an image shows to how it acts: what it preserves, abstracts, and makes visible from another time.
