Currently based in Singapore, Toni Cuhardi (b. 1995, Indonesia) started photography in 2009, capturing his friends, family and events in his school. He is intrigued by the transitory aspects of life, which led him to capture the in-betweens, be it the fleeting moments of travel or the observations from awkward pauses in the day to day.
The theme of “over thinking the mundane” constitutes a central pillar in his practice, igniting projects which often stem from simple questions of everyday encounters. What’s the colour of the plates? Why was the light turned on during the day? What was that man doing before he sat there? These insignificant questions guide his observation and materialise into images of details, scenes and speculative reality.
