Brea Souders’ photographs reflect how integral superstitions have always been for us in our lives – the human urge for storytelling, the need for control in an uncertain world and the tendency for humans to turn to superstitions as portals to a childhood sensibility in order to make sense of a complex world. Despite the variable nature of superstitions, Souders binds the series together with running themes of fears and desires in relation to superstitions. With that, she highlights how superstitions have influenced human’s psychology from an early age up to now.
