About the Exhibition
Witness looks into the golden age of photography as a medium that chronicles significant history events.
During the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966 – 1976), otherwise commonly known as the Cultural Revolution, Li Zhensheng bore witness to the social-political upheaval that spread through China.
As a young photojournalist of the Heilongjiang Daily, Li was compelled to record the reality behind China’s most catastrophic political movement. He risked his life by hiding negatives that offered a complete account of China’s political situation under the rule of Mao Zedong.
