Selby Hickey’s photographs are fragments of urban landscapes taken in Buenos Aires, San Jose (Costa Rica), Madrid and New York from 2005 to 2007. They record anonymous, often fleeting visual events in the streets and work sites of different places. She looks for unexpected intersections of color and line, texture, light and shadow. Her photos tend towards abstraction, but yet retains subtle semblance of familiarities to the observer. Hickey hopes her photographs create a special experience of surprise and unexpectedness for each of her audiences.
