About SYPA

Founded by City Developments Limited (CDL) and championed by the late Mr. Kwek Leng Joo, the Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA) nurtures creativity, imagination, and a keen sense of artistry. It serves as a catalyst for renewing our photographic community, infusing it with young talent and adding vibrancy to Singapore’s ecosystem. Above all, photography is a powerful medium for communication, self-expression, self-efficacy, and self-esteem.

To date, SYPA remains the only national platform for young photographers aged 13–25 years old and has run successfully for 9 different editions, inspiring and supporting numerous young talents and artists in their photographic journeys, significantly contributing to the Singaporean art scene.

SYPA 2026

Celebrating its 10th edition, the Singapore Young Photographer Award (SYPA) is open to photographers and artists aged 13 to 25. This year’s theme, “Echoes of Home,” invited participants to explore photography as a medium for rediscovery and connection, with people, the environment, and the idea of home.

Rather than seeking the extraordinary or the decisive moment, the award encourages attention to the everyday things: the quiet details, overlooked scenes, and fleeting moments that shape a sense of belonging. Through personal perspectives, the works explore what defines home and examine the relationships between people, place, memory, and identity.

Theme: Echoes of Home

For this year’s competition, participants were invited to explore how photography can be used as a medium for rediscovery and connection with one another, the environment, as well as the idea of home.

The competition is not focused on finding that extraordinary or decisive shot, but rather about getting participants to offer their unique perspective on everyday life — the things that often go unseen and overlooked, the little moments that make a place truly “feel like home.”.

Through the participant’s eyes (and lens), we strove to visualise what defines home, exploring the interrelationships between people, their environments, and their origins.

After months of anticipation, we are pleased to unveil the winning works of SYPA 2026, a collection of compelling perspectives, considered moments, and distinctive visual narratives from the next generation of photographers.

The selected works will be presented at *Whitespace Gallery, Level 3, SCAPE Singapore, offering audiences an opportunity to experience the photographs and stories that have distinguished themselves this year.
