A graduate in Fine Arts, Gloria Oyarzabal Lodge diversifies her activities between film, photography, and teaching. She co-founded and programmed at the independent cinema “La Enana Marrón” in Madrid (1999-2009), which was dedicated to the diffusion of auteur, experimental, and alternative cinema.
She lived in Bamako, Mali (2009-2012), researching the construction of the concept of Africa, processes of colonization and decolonization, new tactics of colonialism, and the diversity of African feminisms.
In 2017, she was selected for the artist residency Ranchito Matadero Nigeria/South Africa, which took place between Madrid and the Art House Foundation in Lagos, Nigeria. This residency allowed her to develop her research on the colonization of the concept of woman.
In 2022, she was invited by Fondazione Orestaide and the festival as a resident artist at Gibellina Photoroad (Sicily, Italy).
Since 1996, she has been working in the cinema world, focusing on artistic direction and photography for experimental short films and documentaries.
She holds a Master’s in Creation and Development of Photographic Projects from Blankpaper School of Photography (Madrid, 2014-2015), a degree in Conservation and Restoration of Art (1993), and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Complutense University of Madrid (1998). She also taught Analysis of Architectural Forms at IADE (2001-2010).
