Toni started photography in 2009, photographing his friends, family and events in his school.

Born in Indonesia and raised in Singapore, Toni took interest in the transitory aspect of life and this led him to capture the in-between, be it the fleeting moments of travel, the temporary visits or the observations from the awkward pauses in life.

The theme of “overthinking the mundane” became one of his pillars in photography and his projects started out from simple questions of everyday encounters.

What’s the colour of the plates? Why was the light turned on during the day? What was that man doing before he sat there? These insignificant questions guide his observation and materialise into photographs of details, scenes and speculative reality. In contrast, these questions answer themselves into photographs and from these visual references, they often get abstracted and take many interpretations.
