In the Comfort of All Things features the works of two Korea-based photographers, Park Cheol Kyu and MinzouChowon Ghim.

Park Cheol Kyu’s series, Jeil Yeonrip, shines a light on the everyday lives of elderly residents who inhabit an old multi-family housing complex tucked deep within an alley in Seongnam. The inconspicuous building holds stories of strong resilience and dynamic relationships between its occupants. Park steps in both as an active member of this formed community and as a photographer, giving us an intimate glimpse into the livelihoods of an overlooked space that may disappear at any given moment.

MinzouChowon Ghim’s brightly coloured images welcome us into The Wonderful Story of Sweet Hospital. This body of work highlights her observations of positivity and recovery, exploring how a patient’s healing is shaped when accompanied by uplifting, warm caregivers. Ghim’s work reveals much about her dual identity; as both a photographer and a research assistant at a university hospital, her constant exposure to medical settings inspired her to document them. To bridge reality and comfort, she employs Photoshop AI to supplement each image with dreamlike, surreal candies—visual extensions of the actual sweets she carries on the job to comfort patients.

Park and Ghim’s works converge at the intersection of care, labour, and the preservation of human warmth within structured spaces. While Park documents the external, grounding realities of an ageing architectural community facing erasure, Ghim explores the internal, psychological landscapes of healing within institutional walls. These tender and effervescent images reveal how comfort is not merely a passive state, but an active, creative act of survival and companionship.
