Cheng first came across the Street box style camera through the Afghan Box Camera Project. This fascinating device, which combines both a camera and a darkroom in one, has been known by many names across the world, such as Street Box Camera, Camera Minuteros, Lambe Lambe, and Kamra-e-faoree.

Captivated by its ability to both capture and develop photos instantly, Cheng decided to build his own version in 2018. With his handmade camera, he joined a resurgence of contemporary box camera photographers. Since then, he has used it for portraiture and various photography experiments, exploring its unique, old-school charm.
