What do photographs remember, and what do we ask them to remember for us?

The Stories We Carry explores memory as something continually reconstructed through family, relationships, migration and the stories passed between generations. Moving between personal archives, vernacular photographs, inherited objects and fragments of lived experience, four artists consider how photography preserves, reshapes and gives new meaning to the past.

Stephanie Lee revisits family expectations and reconciliation through memories of their father; Zakaria Zainal gathers personal photographs of Singapore’s Gurkha community to recover histories beyond official narratives; Donna Chiu explores diaspora, erasure and visibility through her family archive; while Quinn Lum returns to childhood memories and expectations to examine how they continue to shape the adult self.

Together, their works reveal photography as more than a record of what has been. It becomes an act of remembering, questioning and care—carrying stories forward while allowing them to be seen anew.
